Graveside services for William H. "Papa Bill" Tyler, 83, Eudora, were Monday at Silent City Cemetery, DeSoto.
Mr. Tyler died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at Eudora Nursing Center.
He was born Jan. 16, 1917, in El Dorado Springs, Mo., the son of Fred and Grace (Meyers) Tyler. He moved to the DeSoto and Eudora area in 1942.
Mr. Tyler served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and had worked as crew chief for the fire department at Hercules, Inc., before retiring in 1978.
He married Vernona Dunn. She died Aug. 26, 1966. He later married Hazel Rothberger. She died March 13, 1987.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Auldridge, Olathe; two sons, William "Sam" Tyler, DeSoto, and Norman Tyler, Eudora; three brothers, Donald Tyler, Hardin, Mont.; Herman Tyler, Arcadia; and Prince Tyler, Lawrence; three sisters, Mildred Marrow, El Dorado Sprigs, Mo.; Ruth Ball, Dallas; and Shirley Allen, Pittsburg; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Christ Community Evangelical Free Church, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence.
