A night to go out in style!
After weeks of tanning by some and planning and by others, the social event of the year for Eudora High is finally here.
On Saturday, Eudora High (EHS) will hold its annual junior-senior prom. For most in attendance, fashion is on the mind. Looking good is key and the main element for many young ladies is all in the dress.
Sophomore Jamie Becker and Tina Lauber will be in attendance with their "older" dates. While Lauber found a two-piece dress to wear, Becker said she searched high and low to find the dress she was looking for to fit her style.
Jennifer Wilkins, Eudora High junior, Tina Lauber, sophomore, Jaime Becker, sophomore, and Sarah Davis, junior, model their prom dresses for this years dance at the Burge Union. Eudora's prom will be held this Saturday night, followed by the all-night prom party.
"It's like a fairy-princess dress," she said, "poofy at the bottom."
For some, finding a dress is harder than finding a date. Junior Jennifer Wilkins said she went to "all the malls" before she found a dress she liked.
Sarah Davis said she felt sorry for those who spent hours looking for the right formal wear.
"It sucks to be everybody else," said the junior. "The first dress I found, I bought."
But there's more than the dress that makes the lady, from the hairstyle to the nails.
In preparation for this weekend's prom, Jenn Williams works on Sheena Warrington's, Eudora High junior, nails. This has been a busy week for Williams' nail business as Eudora students get ready for the big event.
Jenn Williams operates Nail by Jenn out of her Eudora home. Licensed since 1996, this is the first year she offered her services for prom. Williams said she had 14 clients this year with many choosing a popular style for their nails.
"Most of them are going with a French manicure," she said. "But if they see something that's cool, I'm more than willing to try it out."
Getting a tuxedo may not be as difficult for men as the womens' chore of finding a dress.
Michael Lockhart said he has a simple rule when picking out a style and design of tuxedo.
"Just make sure it matches," he said.
However, there is one color the junior won't wear.
"If your date has a pink dress, you don't want to get a pink vest," Lockhart said.
