Services for Fanny Fern Irwin, 104, Eudora, were Wednesday, April 25, at Eudora Assembly of God Church. Burial was in Geneva Cemetery, Geneva.
Mrs. Irwin died Sunday, April 22, 2001.
She was born Dec. 3, 1896, in rural Mildred, the daughter of John Bradford and Emma (Nicholson) Fergus. She attended grade school through high school in Mildred, attended college in Manhattan and Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia. She had also lived at Sunflower Village.
Mrs. Irwin taught school in Iola and Geneva. She was a member of Eudora Assembly of God Church, where she served as president of the women's group and had been a Sunday school teacher. She was also the oldest member of the Republican Party in Kansas.
She married Jim Irwin on April 1, 1922, in Mildred. He died March 7, 1955.
Survivors include two daughters, Lois Idell Tyler and Rose Marie Philips, both of Eudora; a son, Wayne A. Irwin, Manteca, Calif.; an adopted niece, Katherine Ann Fergus, Eudora; a brother, John Wayne Fergus, Eudora; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
A son, Jim Irwin Jr., died in September 1992. A sister, Ruth Fergus, and three brothers, Lou Fergus, Thomas Earl Fergus and Hugh N. Fergus, also preceded her in death.
Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, Lawrence, was in charge of arrangements.
