Services for Howard James McDaniel, 83, Baldwin, were Monday, April 23, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, Lawrence. Graveside services with military honors by Missouri Honors Program were Monday at Paradise Cemetery near Jasper, Mo.
Mr. McDaniel died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 6, 1918, in Neodesha, the son of William Riley and Estella Delilah (Ritter) McDaniel. He moved to Baldwin in 1987 from Carthage, Mo.
Mr. McDaniel served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, EAME Ribbon and American Theater Ribbon.
He had worked at Carthage (Mo.) Marble and Fairview Greenhouse, and was a member of Church of Christ, Baldwin.
He married Edith Vincent on Dec. 25, 1940, in Carthage, Mo. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, James McDaniel, Kansas City, Kan.; three daughters, Ellen Grammer, Baldwin, Sharon Brock, Linwood, and Sondra Atkinson, Gardner; four sisters, Helen McDaniel, Lawrence, Beulah West, Warrensburg, Mo., Faye Cole, Carthage, Mo., and Eldon Stuckey, Jasper, Mo.; 24 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Juanita McDaniel, died in 1946.
