Infant in fair condition after traffic accident
An infant girl was in fair condition Monday after a June 12 traffic accident on K-10 that ejected her from the automobile.
Anastisa Hopper rode in the back seat on the passenger's side of a 1997 Pontiac Firebird driven by Tyrone Burton of Lawrence. The child's mother, Lynna Hopper of Olathe, was treated for facial lacerations was and released from Overland Park Regional Medical Center. She rode in the passenger's seat.
According to the accident report, Anastisa Hopper's seat ejected from the car through the passenger-side door that opened during the car's collision with a guardrail on K-10 east of Lexington Avenue. The rear seat belt was latched but unattached to the infant's child seat harness, which was unlatched.
Burton told authorities that he was traveling east on K-10 when he hit a bump and lost control of the vehicle, which then spun around. The accident report states the bump could be attributed to separation joints at the Lexington Avenue bridge.
The accident destroyed the vehicle with damage to the front and rear.
