Services for Herbert W. Cooper, 80, Eudora, were Wednesday, May 16, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial was in Eudora Cemetery with military graveside honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Alford-Clarke Post No. 852.

Mr. Cooper died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Eudora Nursing Center.

He was born March 21, 1921, in Parsons, the son of John and Myrtle (Mathis) Cooper. He was raised in the Parsons area and attended Altamont High School.

He was a World War II Army veteran and served in Europe and the Aleutian Islands.

He was a pipefitter and had worked for the Co-op Refinery in Coffeyville. He moved to Lawrence in 1954 and worked for Farmland Industries. He retired as a foreman in 1976. He later lived in Texas before moving to Eudora in 1983.

He was a member of VFW Alford-Clarke Post No. 852, Lawrence; American Legion Post No. 20, Coffeyville; and Fraternal Order of Eagles Mount Oread Aerie No. 309, Lawrence.

He married Pearl Mae Symonds on March 7, 1951. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Sandy Clark, Eudora; a stepdaughter, Peggy Brown, Hutchinson; a stepson, Don Hodge, Seattle; one grandchild and seven stepgrandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice Care in Douglas County, sent in care of the mortuary.
