Services for Francis "Mac" McConkey, 81, Eudora, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be at Eudora City Cemetery.
Mr. McConkey died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 14, 1920, in Milan, Mo., the son of John and Anna (Richardson) McConkey. He was raised in Milan. After the death of his parents, he was raised by his foster parents, Eula and Newt Caldwell.
He moved to Sunflower Village in 1945, then to Eudora in 1958. He worked at Sunflower Ammunition Plant for 38 years, retiring in 1983. He also coached little league baseball in Eudora for many years.
Mr. McConkey was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of First Southern Baptist Church, Eudora.
He married Betha Helen Sharp Aug. 1, 1937, in Milan, Mo. She died Nov. 15, 1996.
Six brothers and three sisters also preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Michael McConkey, Wamego; four daughters, Frances Macey, Lee's Summit, Mo., and Joyce Massey, Brenda Long and Patty Dardis, all of Eudora; a sister, Ruby Reed, Milan, Mo.; his foster mother, Eula Caldwell, Milan, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Salvation Army homeless shelter, sent in care of the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1260, Lawrence 66044.
