Quarry digs expanding its operation
Rural residents living southeast of Eudora may want to mark Wednesday on their calendars. That's when the Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission will consider an application from Hamm Quarry of Perry to expand its operation at 1200 and 2400 roads, about two miles east of Eudora High School on the Johnson-Douglas county line. Eudora Planning Commission Chairman Kurt von Achen said the Eudora Planning Commission would meet jointly with the county's Planning Commission because the quarry was near enough to incorporated Eudora.
He said Hamm was asking to expand the quarry to the north. Trucks carrying the quarry's limestone, used as an aggregate for asphalt and concrete road construction materials, would mostly be headed west via Douglas County 458. The paved road runs from the Johnson County line on the east and across the county, passing Wells Overlook and curving around Clinton Lake on the west.
The Douglas County and Eudora planning commissions will meet at 6:35 p.m. at Lawrence City Hall, Sixth and Massachusetts streets in Lawrence.
