School district making progress with new projects
December 6, 2007
The Eudora USD 491 Board of Education approved a resolution authorizing the offer for sale of a short-term $5 million note at a Nov. 28 school board meeting.
Eudora Superintendent of Schools Marty Kobza said the note had an interest rate of 3.75 percent and most likely will be sold in the spring when the market is less volatile.
He also said the school district was almost finished with its design development on the elementary school and the school district will close on land where it will be built, in the area of 10th and Peach streets. The scheduled closing is Jan. 9.
"The site plan is going well and there is a traffic study being done in the area by BG Consultants, so we're excited about that."
Kobza also said the middle school addition was in the schematic phase and teachers will provide feedback on the schematic, while the expansion at the high school, the new district stadium and the technical education center will be designed in the spring.
The new technical education center also will provide a source of revenue because Eudora will be a host district to other schools. Kobza was particularly optimistic about the possibilities that will come with improvements made to the technical education center.,
"We're going to be doing some exciting things with the vo-tech center and getting a partnership going with the Lawrence Workforce Center and industry in the area, and Johnson County is tied in with that group," he said. "So, there are some really cool opportunities for the community."
