All-area teams announced

Eudora seniors Mike Sledd and Morgan Abel were named to the Lawrence Journal-World All-area first team in football. Seniors Matthew Abel and Travis Clarke were listed as honorable mention.

At 6-foot-3 and 295 pounds, Sledd was an intimidating force on Eudora's offensive line. A three-year starter, he anchored an offense that averaged over 2,500 yards per year rushing and more than 40 points a game. He also was named to his all-conference team in each of the past three seasons.

Morgan Abel was a three-year starter for Eudora's defense. This season, he made 60 tackles, with 15 coming for a loss despite drawing double teams on virtually every play. He led a defense that held teams to 180 yards a game and was named the Cardinals' defensive MVP.

The pair was joined on the first team by Free State quarterback Craig Rosenstengle, Free State running back Chucky Hunter, Free State linebacker and receiver Ryder Werts, Lawrence running back Tyler Hunt, Perry-Lecompton quarterback Shane Gimzo, Perry-Lecompton defensive back Caleb Denton, Baldwin linebacker Luke Weaver, Baldwin running back Jared Hall, Santa Fe Trail linebacker Cameron Cauthon and De Soto quarterback Erik Hill.

Eudora freshmen Juan Ramirez and Ivan Espinosa were listed as the Journal World's all-area honorable mention.

The first team consisted of Cristian Dozier and Lucas Slater of De Soto, Dylan Hedges and Roy Wedge of Lawrence, Aaron Karlin and Tony Weiss of Baldwin and Logan Sloan of Free State.

Eudora senior Emily Ballock and junior Liz Hoese were listed as honorable mention all-area cross country runners by the Journal World.

The first team consisted of Lacey Erickson of De Soto, Calleigh Durr of Baldwin, Hayley Francis of Free State, Heather Garcia of Baldwin, Kyra Kilwein of Free State, Corinna Papps of Baldwin and Kelly Renfro of Lawrence.

Eudora senior Nikki Snider was named to the first-team all-area volleyball team by the Lawrence Journal-World.

Snider was named to the Frontier All-League first team as well as the Tonganoxie All-Tournament team.

She had 475 kills, 321 digs, 61 blocks, 43 aces and a 94 percent serving percentage.

Snider was joined on the team by Brooke Carter, Melanie Chaussee and Taylor Manning of Free State, Emily Bracciano and Tayler Tolefree of Lawrence, Sami Franiuk and Tracie Hileman of Tonganoxie, Kara McFarland of Ottawa
