Workers killed in fall ID’d
Douglas County officials Wednesday released the identities of the two men who fell to their death from a communications tower in rural Douglas County the day before.
Jerry Case, 54, of Kansas City, Mo., and Kevin Keeling, 33, of Independence, Mo., fell 500 to 800 feet from a tower at East 1750 and North 1100 roads. They were installing an antenna Tuesday morning as part of Sprint Nextel Corp.'s bandwidth conversion of its Nextel network. Both men were employed by Structural Inspections Inc. of Blue Springs, Mo.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said the men were being lifted in a bucket when a cable failed. The bucket was suspended on a line at a 45-degree angle to the ground.
Lt. Kari Wempe, sheriff's department spokeswoman, said it would be several days before the accident's cause could be determined.
