- Rotting fish bait caused concern of gas leak Sunday evening at the Eudora Post Office. At about 9 p.m., Eudora City Fire Chief Randy Ates heard two separate reports of a strong smell near the building at 709 Main St.

- Wayne Geyer knows what makes a good walnut tree. Geyer said a good tree is a straight tree, one that grows tall and is free of bugs. Geyer is a professor of forestry science and Agroforestry at Kansas State University and was a guest speaker at the Walnut Council Field Day Friday.

- CPA Park will be the city’s garage sale headquarters starting at 7:30 a.m. Saturday. Residents and visitors will gather at the park at Ninth and Main streets to plan a day of bargain hunting on a citywide scale.

- Judging from an icebreaker game Monday morning, the district’s newest crop of teachers are a diverse crowd, mentor teacher Ruth Hughs said. In the game, the new instructors were asked to give interesting facts about themselves. Hughs heard stories from missionaries, new graduates and a teacher who once served food to John F. Kennedy Jr. in Hays. “They just all have a variety of life experiences,” Hughs said.
