Barta named All-American Scholar
Eudora High School junior Anthony Barta has been named an All-American Scholar by the United States Achievement Academy.
The award offers recognition to superior students who excel in the academic disciplines. The All-American Scholars must earn a 3.3 or higher grade point average.
Barta will appear in the All-American Scholar Yearbook, which is published nationally.
In addition, Barta has been recognized for academic achievement as a United States National Honor Roll Award winner and will appear in the United States Achievement Academy official yearbook, which also is published nationally. The Academy recognizes fewer than 10 percent of all American high school students.
The Academy selects USAA winners upon the exclusive recommendation of teachers, coaches, counselors and other qualified sponsors and upon the standards of selection set forth by the Academy. Criteria for selection includes a student's academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability and recommendation from a qualified sponsor.
Barta was nominated for both awards by EHS counselor Paul Walrod.
He is the son of Myk and Rene Barta, Eudora. His grandparents are Ron and Sandy Thornton, Don and Michelle Barta and Jeanne Cunningham, all of Lawrence.
