All-area softball

Eudora head coach Cara Kimberlin was named 2007 All-Area Coach of the Year by the Lawrence Journal-World. Players Caitlyn Riser and MacKenzie Salzman were named First Team All-Area, Evan Folks earned second team honors and Brynn Hamilton was earned honorable mention.

Kimberlin led the Cardinals to a 15-5 record and five straight postseason victories on the way to a berth in the state title game.

Riser, a senior, showcased her versatility in 2007 by batting .377, committing only four errors at second base and posting a 1.21 ERA as a pitcher.

Salzman, a junior outfielder, is a repeat All-Area performer who finished with a .387 batting average.

Folks starred at catcher as a freshman and Hamilton provided the pitching that spurred the Cardinals postseason run.

All-area baseball

Eudora head coach Dirk Kinney and four Cardinal players earned All-Area honors from the Lawrence Journal-World. Kinney was selected as the All-Area Coach of the Year. Kent Swanson, Matthew Abel, and Chad Krutz were named to the All-Area First Team and Brian White made the Second Team.

Though the Cardinals lost an outstanding group of seniors heading into the 2007 season, Kinney led the team to a 12-6 record and the regional semifinals, where the team fell to state champion Kansas City Ward.

Swanson, a dependable senior, provided a .500 batting average from the No. 2 spot in the Cardinals' lineup. Abel was the team's sparkplug -- the junior stole 22 bases and covered plenty of ground in the outfield.

Krutz stood out for his contributions on the mound and at the plate. The junior drove in 15 runs while posting a stellar 2.47 ERA. White, a junior pitcher, earned five wins and only one loss.

All-area girls track and field

Emily Ballock, Brittney Graff and Allison Hoover made the 2007 All-Area Girls Track and Field Team, as selected by the Lawrence Journal-World.

A junior and repeat All-Area selection, Ballock earned her third consecutive state title in the 300-meter hurdles competition with a time of 43.86 seconds.

Graff, a senior and repeat All-Area choice, ran the mile in 5:08 to garner a bronze medal at the state championship.

Hoover, a sophomore, was selected to the team for her pole vaulting success. She finished ninth in the state meet.

All-area boys track and field

The Lawrence Journal-World named Eudora High athletes Justin Ballock and Cody Burns to its All-Area Boys Track and Field Team.

As a freshman, Ballock ran the 300 meter hurdles in 41.34 seconds at the state meet, good for a second-place finish.

Burns, a senior, earned the All-Area selection by turning in a time of 4 minutes and 37.5 seconds in the mile run.
