George D. Mozingo
1915-2007
Funeral services for George Donald Mozingo, 92, Eudora, were Saturday, Nov. 10, at First Baptist Church in Altamont. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont.
Mr. Mozingo died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at Medicalodges of Eudora.
He was born Oct. 19, 1915, in Strauss, the son of Henry Alvin and Icy May Shannon Mozingo. He grew up and attended schools in Parsons. He was a former resident of Altamont.
Mr. Mozingo worked for the Katy Railroad and owned a greenhouse in Parsons before he was drafted to serve in the U.S. Air Force Engineers in 1945. He worked as a postal clerk in Spokane, Wash. He owned a produce store in Altamont from 1945 to 1948 and then worked as a carpenter. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Altamont for 48 years. He enjoyed woodcarving, stained glass work, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family.
He married Thelma Maedene Evans on Oct. 19, 1938. She died Dec. 17, 1993.
Mr. Mozingo also was preceded in death by a brother, Harvey Mozingo; six sisters, Maggie DeCow, Ida Foster, Ada Foster, Lura Owen, Flora McClure and Icy Jean Mozingo; and two great-grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Vernis Kay Flottman, Lawrence, and Jerry Ann McDowell, Watts, Okla.; a sister-in-law, Ruth Evans, Riverton; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont was in charge of arrangements.
The family suggests memorials to Altamont First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 156, Altamont, 67330 or Lawrence Memorial Hospital Oncology Center, 325 Maine, Lawrence KS 66044.
