The seventh-grade girls varsity Cardinals scored their third victory of the year with a 32-2 win Tuesday against Central Heights. The Cardinals had eight players score, led by Annie Beck with eight points, McKenzie Oller and Valarie Pringle with six each, Sarah Kruger with four, and Danielle Topil, Rayah Kobza, Madison Maring, and Emily Durkin all with two.

Retired professor hopes to help ‘hidden homeless’

After former Kansas University business professor and current Eudora resident Joe Reitz retired from teaching in May 2006, he became the CEO for the LEO Center in Lawrence, which is a consortium of churches that helps the needy with medical care. Though he was always aware that there were homeless people in Lawrence, working at the LEO Center opened his eyes.

While raking leaves last weekend, I started thinking about the wonderful attributes of compost. Mostly, I was thinking about recent studies from Cornell and Ohio State universities that show increased disease resistance in plants grown in soils with high organic matter.

In September, Weldon Industries introduced its new 95-gallon-capacity wheeled trash containers to its Eudora customers. The Eudora City Council approved the change in the company trash contract with the city in June.

Douglas County Senior Services is accepting donations of used cell phones as part of its “911 Cell Phones for Seniors” program. The cell phones will be given to seniors who request them and only can be used to call 911 operators.
