- City gets plan for Main street’s crumbling wall
- September 20, 2007
- For more than a year, downtown businesses have lived with barricades set up to protect pedestrians from a crumbling wall on the west side of Main Street. “It's kind of a dangerous situation,” Cutter's Smokehouse and Pub owner Dan Strimple said of the wall and the barricades that block the sidewalk and cordon off parking stalls to the north of his business.

- Once he was convinced to run cross country, freshman Juan Ramirez didn’t waste any time establishing himself as one of the area’s best talents
- September 20, 2007
- Even Juan Ramirez himself was surprised. He started his first cross country race, an August trip to Anderson County, fast, but not blazing. As the race wore on, Eudora's high-flying freshman pushed up, however. A no-name when the gun sounded, Ramirez ran his way right into the consciousness of area competitors in the second half of the race.

- For the third consecutive week, the Eudora High School football team found itself staring at a deficit Friday night after allowing a first-quarter touchdown on a one-yard run by Wellsville's Bubba Oshel. And, for the third-straight week, the Cardinals responded in full force as they went on to score six straight unanswered touchdowns to capture a 41-15 win to remain unbeaten.

- Eudora senior Emily Ballock chugged down the home stretch, a hard week's worth of practice taking its full toll as she labored toward the finish line. One hundred fifty yards from that line, she lost the race, falling behind Maurissa Shaffer of Louisburg and capping a powerful individual performance with a disappointing final few moments.
- Cardinals pick up first win against former coach, Paola
- September 20, 2007
- With a full slate of games scheduled, the Eudora High School soccer team got an unexpected breather Tuesday evening as the scheduled game against Tonganoxie was postponed because of weather. Of course, the break came exactly when the Cardinals were trying to build momentum, not when they were looking for the extra time. After struggling through four straight losses, Eudora finally notched its first win of the season Thursday with a 4-1 win over Paola.

- Fourth-graders at Eudora West Elementary now have the ability to drop the name of a complex tryptophan protein in an instant. It would be a long instant, because the 1,909-letter word is the longest in the English language, but all the fourth-graders would have to do is open to the last page of a dictionary given to them Friday afternoon.

- September 20, 2007
- Former district notables Don Laws, D.E. Kerr, and Roberta Nottingham will not be forgotten –- at least as far as Eudora USD 491 is concerned. The school board unanimously agreed Thursday to attach the Nottingham, Laws and Kerr names to new district facilities should a $45 million bond referendum pass Nov. 6. “These people meant something significant to the people that are obviously involved, and we have to respect that,” Eudora Superintendent Marty Kobza said
