Eudora teen murdered in Mexico
April 7, 2008
An 18-year-old Eudora man was killed in Mexico last month shortly before he was to leave the country where he had spent most of March visiting friends.
Morton Danielsen said his son Austin Kane Danielsen was murdered in Matamoros, a border town directly south of Brownsville, Texas.
Newspaper accounts from Matamoros state Austin was beaten to death and that his body was found March 29 near railroad tracks.
Morton Danielsen said his son flew to Monterrey, Mexico, in early March to meet friends he stayed with for three weeks. He then traveled to Matamoros, about 200 miles to the east of Monterrey, to spend a few days with more friends before traveling back home.
His father said Mexican authorities are still investigating the murder and that no arrest has been made.
Morton Danielsen, a Norwegian native, said his son enjoyed traveling and planned to visit Norway once he returned from Mexico.
Austin spent three years at Eudora High School before transferring. Records from Lawrence High School indicate he attended that school the 2007-2008 school year.
A memorial service is pending.
