The youth basketball league at the Eudora Community Center kicked off its season Saturday with seven games in the community center gym and four games at Eudora Middle School.

- At a Eudora Planning Commission meeting Wednesday, the city of Eudora reported just nine single-family building permits were issued for 2007, down from 25 in 2006. Building permits for single-family homes have declined since 2003, when 117 permits were issued, followed by 108 permits in 2004 and 96 permits in 2005.

- The eight-grade varsity basketball season got off to a 1-1 start Saturday in Wellsville.

- The seventh-grade varsity boys basketball team opened the season with a two-game tournament at Wellsville Saturday. Eudora and Wellsville matched up in the first game, for what turned out to be a real nail-biter — a 29-28 double-overtime victory by the Cardinals.
