The Eudora Cardinals baseball team held its first-ever "Hit-a-thon" fundraiser at noon Saturday.

The idea came to coach Shaun Edmonson after his summer team, the Lawrence Raiders, successfully held the same event in previous years.

Eudora players sent out sheets to relatives and other acquaintances starting March 10. The sheets explained donators could either contribute with a flat donation or they could donate a certain amount per each foot that the player's farthest drive went.

Edmonson said the program had received between $4,000 and $5,000 in flat donations, and wouldn't know the total amount raised until all pledge sheets were in.
