Fundraiser aims to get new mascot for EMS

May 8, 2008

Lee Trimble was eased into the world of fundraising after a great turnout for Project Bucca, wherein her family asked for donations of items for U.S. troops in the Middle East.

She now has decided to raise funds for Eudora Middle School, and more specifically, the mascot costume.

Trimble, with the help of 20 parent chaperones and one Eudora police officer, has organized a dance for eighth-grade students that will be from 7 to 11 p.m. May 16 at the Eudora Community Center to raise funds for a new costume.

“We’re all wrapped up in our lives and to do something little for someone else is not that big of a deal.”

The dance will feature a DJ and a special performance. Food and drinks also will be served.

Eudora Middle School Principal Richard Proffitt said he appreciated the effort to raise funds and would gladly put any money raised at the event toward a new costume

A new costume would cost $900, but there are only 107 students in the eighth-grade class so Trimble knows that they’ll also need donations.

“We won’t raise it with just people coming in,” she said. “But if someone wants to donate $10 instead of $5 that would be great.”

Though one of Trimble’s children will graduate from EMS this May, she still has two other children in the Eudora schools.

She wants to not only provide her children, but also children throughout the community with amenities that they need and want.

“We’ve got to help if we can, and what a fun way to do it. It’s just a way to get everyone together and hopefully raise the money for a new costume,” she said.
